ZIGGY is heartworm positive. His neuter and other vet work wnet well but now we have to get him heartworm tested.
First he will be on an antibiotic for 2 weeks and be started on Heartguard to kill the baby heartworms in his bloodstream.
Then he will get two painful injections in the muscles of his lower back one day after the other. In 4 weeks, he will receive an oral dose of heartworm medication. Ziggy will have to be kept calm and contained for 6 to 8 weeks before he can resume a normal life.
DONATIONS are needed for Ziggy's treatment. COST IS $300.(rescue cost).
Treatment is scheduled to start in two weeks on March 5th so please donate!
Note this treatment would cost the averaeg person around $800 to $1000 so please keep your pets on monthly prevention. This treatment is also very dangerous and could be deadly to the pet to don't risk it. |

Dog walkers are needed at our main Kennel House is Acworth. We are located off of Mars Hill Road near Cobb Parkway. B/c this is not a staffed facility, we do have to schedule when people come to walk dogs b/c someone is not always there.
We have three dogs in medical danger because of their obesity. Fritter, Hailey and Patty. While Hailey has a thryoid condition as well, the other two are just fatties and need someone to get them out and make them get some exercise.
We are constantly looking for active foster homes for these dogs but in the meantime, we can't wait any longer. Time to start their News Years Resolutions!
Contact Morgan at volunteers@forgottenpaws.com if you would like to help out.

In the last few months, we have taken on many dog in dire need of veterinary care that other groups refused to help. Even though we did not have the funds readily available, our Vet was kind enough to let us carry a balance. We have now exceeded $3000 with all the care we have give to our beloved homeless pets.
Just this week, Roxy, our Rottie that is for adoption, needed extensive urine and bloodwork to find out why her urine is not concentrating. Her bill this week alone was $467. With all the new dogs needing shots, heartworm test and spay or neuter, and dogs liek Raisin who was brought to us with a horrible stress related mange, our bill does not go down.
We need to pay this bill as soon as possible so we can stay in the good graces of our vet clinic. We want to be able to carry a balance in the future if needed in cases of urgent care of emergency. Please donate!
Monetary Donations are needed for us to continue operation
Donations to date for 2011 are only 30% of last years donations. We have adopted out one dog in the last 3 months! Simply put, we are headed in the same direction as so many other rescue facilities...closing our doors.
We desperately need YOUR HELP to continue to care for the animals in our care and to continue to save lives.
Blanket, Comforters, Towels and Wish List Donations needed
Winter is here and we need more blankets and towels to keep the dogs warm. All of our floors are cold, hard tile. They need to have the comfort of a normal home during their stay with us.

Whitney- dog found laying in ditch with two broken legs
I got a call from a stranger who had found a dog near his home. After making many calls to local rescues and veterinary clinics, everyone refused to help saying they were all full. Every single one directed me to call Animal Control. I knew (and they knew) that if I called AC on a hurt pit bull she would be put down after laying in a cold cage at the shelter for the 5 day hold period. She would have never seen a vet or the light of day again. Even though Forgotten Paws is filled to the brim, have no money and are not taking any dogs, I could not just leave her to die. I answered that unknown number for a reason. I drove to Lithonia (an hour away from Acworth) and pick this little angel up.
Whitney is a small skinny pit bull mix, that was found by a good samaritan She was laying in a drainage ditch waiting for someone to find her and help her. Whitney has a broken femur on her left leg, a shattered femoral head on her right leg and a cracked pelvic. She has also had puppies at some point in the last month or so. The leg she was laying on, the one with the shattered femoral head, was worn hairless and raw from where she had dragged herself to where she was found. By her weight lose and condition, the vet estimates she was out there hurt for at least a week before she was found.
Today, October 19, 2011, she is undergoing extensive surgery to repair all her ailments. She will get a pin and screw in her left femur and have an FHO on her right leg. An FHO is where they cut off the head of the bone and secure the muscle around the end to form a soft socket. This will allow the dog to live and run with little pain for the rest of her life. There is no surgery to repair her heart or to find those puppies that were left behind somewhere.
Whitney is full of grateful kisses and even a little tail wag. She is a very good natured little angel who taught herself to shut out the pain and hold on for help. Her story makes me think of all the other hurt and abused or mistreated animals in the world who are just holding on praying someone good finds them to help them.
I will get her surgical bill later this week but even with my discount the estimate was $2000. We are accepting tax deductible donations for Whitney's fund.
If you cannot afford to donate money, please look around your home and donate to our YARD SALE. All monies raised will go to take care of Whitney and get her better.
If you have nothing physical or monetary to donate, please donate your time at the Yard Sale. We will need the help!
Whitney Update 11.28.11 : Whitney is an amazing girl. Her personality is coming out and she is very mobile. She will get her follow up xrays this week to determine how well she has healed but in the meantime, she is full speed. She is however, balancing on her front legs alot and using them more then anything. She uses her rear legs a to balance and stand and go up and down the steps but they are obviously still hurting her. She is still on daily pain meds and it hurts me each time she falls on my hard tile floors. She is my shadow and has nailed down the "I am pitiful" looks!
Whitney Update 12.20.11: Whitney is going back in for yet another surgery on Thursday, 12.22.11. She is going 90 miles and hour on three legs but has refused to put her rear left leg down. Upon more follow up xrays, the plates have moved and her leg is still broken in two at the femor. This girl runs and goes up and down the steps all the time dangling a broken leg and making no complaints. I simply can't imagine! She will have surgery again this week on that one leg and most likely he will have to go into her shoulder to get bone marrow for his leg. She is a fighter and a total doll baby though so she is worth is! Keep her in your thoughts and prayers please. Donations are needed to help us cover this additional surgery as well.

Whitney Update 12.28.11: Whitney's surgery went well. She is up and going 90 miles and hour again! ...and refuses to listen to me and just rest! LOL This girl is stressing me out by the way she runs! I am having to crate her and gate her and boy can she protest. LOL I know she thinks I am just being mean to her but hopefully one day she will understand. The next step....once her incision is healed, we will start doing water therapy so she can build that leg back up to full use! She had a great Christmas and loves all her stuffed animals that she can lay around and nurse while I am being mean to her by locking her up! |
Whitney really needs a foster home who has rugs or carpet b/c she has no traction here at my house. She wipes out alot and this is not helping her to heal. If you can foster Whitney, please contact me at info@forgottenpaws.com.

Holiday Doggie Sitting Services offered to Forgotten Paws newly adoptive homes
Don't let the holiday and your travel schedule deter you from adopting this fall. If you adopt a dog from Forgotten Paws during the months of November or December, we will dog sit that dog while you are out of town for Thanksgiving or Christmas. We babysit like this all the time and the dogs are so happy to come back and play all day with the doggie friends they left behind. It is even more wonderful to see how happy they are when their new family returns to pick them up!
Keep this in mind when you tell yourself you want to wait until the new year! There is no need to wait and you can give a dog a home for the holidays. |
