Thank you for considering
adopting a Rescue Pet from Forgotten Paws Pet Rescue, Inc. We are
an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that rescues and places
abandoned dogs and cats. We are active in the entire Atlanta, metro
area and surrounding counties.
Forgotten Paws is a small group and we usually have between
15 and 30 dogs waiting for adoption of all ages and sizes. Since all of our dogs live in foster homes, we do require an APPROVED application prior to scheduling a meeting of a pet outside of the adoption sites.
|
The Adoption
Process has four steps:
1) Adoption
Application with Vet Reference
2) Home Visit
(Upon Approval)
3) Adoption

Instructions
For Adopting a Dog from Forgotten Paws Pet Rescue
1 |
All applicants must be 23 years of age and must complete an adoption application. We adopt within GEORGIA ONLY! |
2 |
A completed adoption application must be submitted online by anyone interested adopting. We will receive your application, review it and respond to you within 48 - 72 hours. If we have questions or concerns or need clarification on any of your responses, we will contact you via email. This application will be used to determine eligibility for adoption. |
3 |
We do not have a facility. All dogs live in foster homes all over the Atlanta Area. Meeting a dog requires an approved application. We will then set up a time for us to speak with you and meet with you so you can meet the dog. We are currently not holding adoptions due to the heat. |
4 |
All household members, including current pets, are required to attend the adoption home visit |
5 |
As part of the adoption process, you will be required
to sign a contract promising to take care of your new pet, keep
its vaccinations and heartworm preventative current, and return
the pet to us if you choose not to keep it |
6 |
One Policy to note: If you have children and you are applying for a dog, we will require you to have a physically fenced yard. Electric fencing is not acceptable. |
Adoption Fee
| Dogs - The Adoption
fee for adult dogs is $225 and for puppies is $250. The adoption
fee includes the following: |
|
Spay

given heartworm preventative while in our care. |
*Please note
that puppies receive several series of shots very 3 weeks until
they are 16 weeks old at which time they receive their rabies. The
adoption fee on the puppies is a little higher due to the extra
veterinary care we have to put into them to get them ready for adoption.
If you are adopting a puppy the adoption fee is $250 and includes
at least 2 sets of shots and deworming. You may be responsible for
getting the remaining vaccinations from your personal veterinarian.
| Cats- The Adoption
fee for cats is $125 and includes the following: |

Vaccinations including rabies, if the
cat is old enough* |

Adoption Fee Comparison - if you were to complete
the basic veterinary care that we do on each pet this is what it
would cost you. This dollar amount does not include flea & heartworm
medications or items like dewormer (if fecal is positive) or heartworm
treatment (if test is positive).

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Why
is your adoption fee so much? I could get a free dog or cat from
the newspaper, so why should I pay $225 for a dog and $125 for a
cat?
A: Some adopters question why we charge an adoption fee of $225,
when they could go to the pound and get a pet for little or no money.
However, they forget that the pet will then need vaccinations, medical
care, and probably still need to be spayed or neutered. Most pounds
do not provide these services, and these required services easily
exceed our adoption fee.
When you buy a pet from a newspaper ad, you are encouraging casual
and irresponsible breeding of dogs or cats, and in that way contributing
to the pet overpopulation crisis in Atlanta today.
The bottom line: Your "free" pet may cost far more than
you expect when you take your new pet to your veterinarian for an
examination plus necessary vaccinations and treatment. In fact,
you are likely to walk out with a bill somewhere between $100 and
$300 and an appointment to return with your new "free"
pet for its spay or neuter (and another $150-$400 fee for services).
If there are other medical conditions that need attention (such
as teeth cleaning, infections or wounds, ear infections or ear mites),
you will have even more expenses. (the above answer
to this this question was provided by Atlanta Pet Rescue)
Q: I'm not in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Can I still adopt?
Forgotten Paws will not adopt outside of
the state of Georgia. We limit our adoption to areas within 100
miles of Atlanta. All applicants will have their home visited by
a representative of Forgotten Paws prior to adoption. We DO NOT adopt outside of GEORGIA |
