More Black dogs die each year then any other color.

Shelter all over the country deal with a common problem called BLACK DOG SYNDROME

1) You Tube Video (5 min) - 2) You Tube Video ( 3 min)

Did You Know:   The general public is not aware of how doomed black dogs are when they are brought to a pound. Black dogs are euthanized at a horrifying rate at pounds & shelters because people pass them up for lighter colored dogs.

The shelters kill them first! The rescues save them last! New homes overlook them! Black is a dominate gene and thus there are more black dogs in the world then any other color! You do the math!

Why are black dogs the last ones to be adopted?

"Just too ordinary"
"Can't see thier eyes"
People don't notice them because of thier dark color, they blend into the background
Superstitions
Negative Labels
Fear

The below listing is of the black dogs we have in our program who need help. You will see duplicates on this page from other pages listing dogs.

Foster Home Notes: Dozier is a happy, outgoing, fun boy. He maybe 5 yrs old but don't tell him! He is very smart. He goes to the door to go outside and will bark or scratch at the door to come back in. He listens well and loves to play. He doe have a fair amount of energy so he will not be happy laying around all day. He loves to go for walks and he adores car rides. You can tell he is very dedicated to his person.

I was at the county shelter saving another dog when Doziers owner drove up to dump him there to die. She said he plays too much with the older dog and he is stressing her out. I could not let him go inside so I put him in my car. I do not regret that decision at all. He is a sweetheart.

Lola is sponsored monthly by David W. Thank you!

Foster Home Notes: Lola is a smart, happy go lucky, playful girl. She is only 5 years old, but has has a little gray running through her face for several years. I took her to a friends house today and she was in heaven. So much to see, do and WOW a creek, which she jumped in and then ran though! LOL At home, Lola is a doll baby. She spends most of her time laying on her bed in her crate (door open). She likes the security of her crate and she can chew on her toys or eat her food in peace away from my other dogs too. I call her my little hoarder b/c she will take every toys she can find and hide it in her crate under her blanket. It is like a treasure chest for the dogs when you pull her blanket out. LOL When I sit down, she comes up and puts her head in my lap and looks at me with her golden eyes. You can certainly see her soul through those eyes. She loves to go for walks and hikes in the woods. She listens well off leash as long as you keep your eye on her and she is not with a dog that will run off with her. If another dog will go, they are gone! Lola would make a great family pet or a companion for someone who just wants to spoil her.

Lola needs a very secure fenced yard or leash walking and visits to the dog park or hiking.. Electric fences are NOT acceptable as she was turned into Animal Control b/c she would not stay in the one her orginal home. .

Foster Home Notes: Callie is a wonderfully sweet girl with a heart of gold and eyes that can give you that "I am pitiful" look on cue She will comes up to me and stand up gently b/c she wants to be hugged and have her belly rubbed. Her old mom used to do this with her. She is very gentle, listens well and loves to cuddle. She gets along great with all my dogs, big or small and especially loves to wrestle with daphne, listed above. Her other best friend is any of the small dogs. She is very gentle when playing with the tiny dogs. She also loves to go on car rides, listens well off leash as long as she is not left unattended or she will run off. She always wants to go places but then seems concerned when we get there. She just has not been out much since she grew up on a chain. Callie is currently on fish oil to try and get her coat back to beautiful. Her hair is so thin that every single scratch from playing shows. Don't let her breed or color deter you. This is a great dog!

Foster Home Notes: Roxy is a very good girl who loves to play with the other dogs and swim in the baby pool. She listens well and is totally housebroken. She loves to play chase, toss around toys and lounge on the deck. I have no idea why her owner dumped her at the highest kill shelter in the state but her time was up and she had only been there for 30 minutes. This shelter has no room for owner turn in's so they kill them immediately! Roxy was a lucky girl that I was there that day at 8.30 am! Roxy needs a home with a secure fenced yard or someone to leash walk her. She is a great dog park dog or dog walking dog bc/ she is good with all dogs, kids, people, etc.

Foster Home Notes: McKenzie and her puppies were living alone in the woods under a fallen tree where the pups were born. I had seen McKenzie and followed her to find her puppies. She was not happy and barked at me. I ended up having to rescue the pups, set the dog trap and take the puppies home. When I got back, McKenzie was in the trap, very sad and pitiful. I got her home and the second I put her in the room and she saw her puppies her whole life changed. She licked each one, wiggled everywhere and climbed into my lap for hugs and kisses. I have never seen a reaction like this and I will never forget it. That was 3 1/2 years ago!

McKenzie was here until a year ago when she got adopted along with her daughter Sabrina. Recently they were returned to me b/c the new owner became very ill. She is sad and sleeps lot but doing okay. She has always been housebroken and a total love muffin. She is so sweet and will sit then scoot up to you for love and attention. She listens better then any dog I have ever met and all she wants is a normal home with a nice bug fluffy bed.

McKenzie has a leg issue now. She needs an FHO where the femerol head of his rear leg is removed and a soft socket is formed. We are collection donations to get this surgery completed. A new home would be wonderful for her so she could recover there and not worry about being knocked down by all the dogs around here. If you are considering two dogs, please look at Sabrina above. They love each other so much and a deal can be worked out for the adoption.

Foster Home Notes: Sabrina is a love bug. S he is great with other dogs, cats and people once she knows you. She has always been shy from the day I pulled her out from under a tree. Her mother, McKenzie, listed below, and her siblings, were living alone in the woods under a fallen tree where the pups were born. I had seen McKenzie and followed her to find her puppies. Sabrina was the last one I got out bc she ran to the back and growled at me. LOL She was only 3 weeks old! As a puppy Sabrina was the first to play with toys and she loved her ball but no one ever adopted her. As she grew up in a house/kennel with 30 other dogs, she started to retreat into a shell and became very shy. This happens to alot of the dogs that don't get adopted quickly. She and her mother were adopted a year ago together and just recently returned b/c the new owner has some major health issues. Sabrina has lived with cats now and she ignores them. She is very smart and LOVES car rides. If you open the car door she is in there in a second and won't get out until she has a ride!

Sabrina is totally housebroken, wants to be on the bed but is perfectly happy in her own bed. She does not need a crate but she does need a fenced yard. We are looking for a home to spoil her. A home with no kids b/c I think they would scare her to death. If you are open to adopting two, please consider her mother as well. There is a special monetary deal for both b/c they love each other so much.
