More Black dogs die each year then any other color.

Shelter all over the country deal with a common problem called BLACK DOG SYNDROME

Did You Know:   The general public is not aware of how doomed black dogs are when they are brought to a pound. Black dogs are euthanized at a horrifying rate at pounds & shelters because people pass them up for lighter colored dogs.

The shelters kill them first! The rescues save them last! New homes overlook them! Black is a dominate gene and thus there are more black dogs in the world then any other color! You do the math!

Why are black dogs the last ones to be adopted?

"Just too ordinary"
"Can't see thier eyes"
People don't notice them because of thier dark color, they blend into the background
Superstitions

The below listing is of the black dogs we have in our program who need help. You will see duplicates on this page from other pages listing dogs.

Laverne is a stuff animal hoarder! We gave her and her sister, Shirley, some toys and Laverne took all the stuffed animals to her bed and refused to let her sister have even one! With her little crooked smile Laverne melts your heart. She just lumbers along like a big black lab. We are starting to see that she has a playful side to her that has not been nourished. She walks well on a leash but when she decides she wants to go in one direction, she will take you along with her. She is a little hard headed when the nose gets going! LOL Laverne would be a great only dog or in a home where she can be top dog.

History: Laverne was raised on a farm outside. We have now housebroken her and she is loving being outside.

K9 Annual Sponsor needed - $55 - it is time for Shirley's annual vet visit!

Shirley is a gentle girl who just watches everything quietly. She is the follower and a little shyer then her sister Laverne. She trots along 2 steps behind her sister and on leash walks she wants her person to take the lead. She will build confidence over time but for now she is content.. She will need a nice loving home without small children making too much noise and where she can get lots of love to teach her that is it okay to be herself.

History: Shirley was raised on a farm outside. We have now housebroken her and she is loving being outside.

Foster Home Notes: Patrick is a wonderfully smart boy. He loves to come up and put his head on my lap for love. He also loves to play with the other dogs or lay around and chew on a bone. He really likes the 10 lb puppies we have and loves to lay with them and let them chew on him. Patrick comse when called and goes in his crate "bed" when told. He loves his treats and expects one each time he goes to bed. :) He is such a great dog. He doesn't jump and he just likes to hang out. Patrick is not leash trained. He just doesn't seem to want to walk. He walks about 20 feet then sits down and starts looking around! LOL

Foster Home Notes: Raven is a happy wiggly little dancer. She is so sweet and a perfect angel. She loves everyone she meets and when you talk to her she wiggles her whole body and his little back feet even come off the ground in a little dance. It is precious! Raven is good with other dogs and loves to get attention. She has obviously never had toys b/c she doesn't seem to have any interest in them at all. She just loves to be around her person. She is great on leash as well. Raven is a cuddler. You can tell she was distraught when she lost her last home and is not just wanting to be loved. She is a great dog!

History: I was looking for a dog that was adopted from us and then lost. Raven's family was very nice to me but they were in the process of being evicted. I offered to take her and find her a new home.

Foster Home Notes: Lenny so so precious and sweet. When I sit in the chair to watch television to take a break, he sits on the floor next to me and leans on my leg. When he tires he goes into the middle of the room or his dog bed and stretch's out of his side. He looks like a little puppy when he sleeps. :) Lenny loves his stuffed toys and will destuff them but never ever touch's furniture or anything like that. He listens perfectly and has learned to sit. Lenny loves to play with the other dogs and is so gentle he lets the smaller dogs chew on him and bounce in his face. All Lenny wants is a person to love him. Someone he can dedicate his whole existence too and be spoiled rotten in return. Lenny likes to go for walks but does get scared of fast cares and some loud noises. He loves everyone he meets and is very very smart.

Foster Home Notes: Lola loves to lay on her dog bed and chew on her toys or bones. She sits on command and at the vet she though everyone who walked in the door was there to see her. She doesn't pull on leash but stands up and wiggles her butt to say hello there! She is great with other dogs and even gives them kisses in the face.

History: Lola was dumped at the shelter by a mom with a child crying his eyes out. She dumped both of their dogs b/c they would not stay in her electric fence. She didn't blink and eye when she was told they would be killed immediately due to lack of space. Luckily we were there picking up another dog and we took these two.
