Sits, shakes, totally housebroken, this boy is a cuddler and very intelligent

Great on leash, he loves to go for walks. He can jump my 6 foot fence but only does so if I am in the front yard. I only crate him when I am gone b/c I have a dog door and so he has to be contained so he doesn't jump the fence to go looking for me.

Good with dogs and kids, we have never had him around cats. I think he might be fine though b/c he doesn't have a prey drive. He is a very stoic boy. He gets happy when I come home but overall just hangs out. This could change once he gets into a normal home environment, not the kennel house.

History: I was in south Atlanta trying to catch a dog and Brian came trotting up like "whatcha doin'?". He was very friendly and curious. After talking to people in the area, I found out that Brian had been DUMPED FROM A VAN about three weeks earlier. He had stayed at that street corner since then, sleeping in the burned out house. A little cat food and a leash and Brian was in my car. He is so well trained and behaved I can't imagine what this dog did to be dumped like trash. He is wonderful!

When we first got her

Be a Virtual Foster. Click here to Sponsor Medley!

Medley love people. She is happy, wiggly, bouncy and just loves everything about life, EXCEPT other dogs or cats. She loves toys, she tosses them in the air and plays her heart out. The sad thing is that she was taught to fight. She is great with other dogs through a fence. She wags and licks and acts like all is great with the world. But if there is no barrier between them, no matter the size or disposition of the other dogs, Medley attacks. She has been trained to get that other dog before it gets her.

She needs a home who likes to keep their dog at home. No dogs parks, no pet stores, just lots of home love! Someone who can keep her safe from getting out the front door. Someone who can make sure she never does anything that would force her to be put down. She is so GREAT WITH PEOPLE I am torn up about her past and her potential future.

Currently Medley is spending her days in a lonely pen outside b/c we can't let her with the other dogs at the kennel. She sits on her dog house and stares at the back of the building waiting for someone to come see her. When we got Medley a few months ago, she was so happy. Now she is sullen and sad. She is not excited to see anyone. She only eats and sleeps and waits for someone to love her. The change in her is painful to watch. I am slowly working on training her to wear a muzzle so we can take her out in public and on long walks.

Maverick is a silly boy. He loves to run and play but also thinks he is a small dog when he wants to cuddle in your lap or on the bed. He loves to play tug of war but we are discouraging it b/c whenever I have a blanket in my hands he grabs at it and wants to play. LOL He is very smart, housebroken, sits, comes, and just wants to be loved. He is good on leash but still needs some training to not zigzag when he gets excited. He loves to chase squirrels so you have to keep a good hold on the leash b/c he will see that squirrel long before you do.

Maverick was never socialized well or leash walked at all as he grew up. He is very nervous when people approach or cars go by and he starts barking at them. He is shy of strangers but if the stranger ignores him, within a minute or two he is trying to be a lap dog. We just make sure that when people come to visit, he is either crated or they walk in the house and stand by the door for him to sniff them. We tell him it is okay and he then is fine. He is a good watch dog.

Sadly, Maverick has an injury to his right eye where his previous owner (or someone) smacked him aside his head so hard that it caused damage to his eye. His lens is stuck to his cornea. According to the opthamologist, his eye is still reacting to light which means he can still see. How well we don't know since a dog can't read an eye chart. Sometime I don't think he can see me well at night or in a darkened house. This DOESN'T STOP MAVERICK! The vet also said that there is a possibility of him having glaucoma later in life. So that is the truth about Mav. We want a new home to know it all up front. I love this little man and he longs for a normal, loving, stable home soon.

Krissy is a very shy little girl with new people but she warms up very quickly. She LOVES to play and has thoroughly enjoyed not only raising her litter of pups but taking on the role of surrogate mom to another litter b/c that mom wants to have her own life. LOL Krissy plays all day with the puppies. She breaks up scuffles and she makes then chase her with toys. She loves to be outside and will lounge on her dog bed on the deck for hours. She is so funny when she gets excited. She will rake the ground backwards with all four feet like a bull and whine. She is so full of love and personality. She is protective of the yard and will bark if someone goes by but she isn't aggressive she is just warning them :)

She needs a home without small kids since we have never had her around them and she is so shy. She REQUIRES A SECURE FENCED YARD. She freaks out on a leash and we have been unable to work with her b/c we have so many dogs at the kennel house. She needs someone who will be patient and let her come to you b/c it may take a couple of days and it will take a few weeks for her to get comfortable in a new home with new people. Don't let her shyness scare you off. She is such an awesome dog.

Krissy was living stray and pregnant in an industrial complex in Marietta. No one knows where she came from but most likely she was dumped. She was so scared and wouldn't come to anyone so we had to set a trap. Bless her heart, she was so hungry she went right inside. She has been with us since the end of May 2014

Miss Macy has heartworms. We need to raise $400 to complete her treatment. She also needs a nice home or foster home to recover.

Donate by clicking the donation link on the left of this page

Macy is a wonderfully sweet girl but very shy of new things and new poeple. She is very attached to her foster mom who loves on her and spoils her rotten. Sadly her foster mom just can't keep her b/c she has a few other dogs as well. We need to find this wonderful girl a loving forever home as soon as possible and let her transition with a few visits before leaving her. She would do best in a home with someone home alot or who has time in the evenings to spend with her. She has been a wonderful mother to her puppies and is now in need of a ome of her own. She has never been loved or had a real home until now.

Macy is heartworm positive. We need to settle her into a new home so we can treat her heartworms. Forgotten paws is responsible for this treatment, not the new home.

Roxy is a very good girl who loves to play with the other dogs and walk through the baby pool. She listens well and is totally housebroken. She loves to play chase, toss around toys and lounge on the deck. She really adores tennis balls but any toy will do. I do crate her still when I am not gone b/c if I do not, she will have a potty issue. She would do great in a home that is consistent or a home with a dog door. She is very smart she just needs someone to treat her well and put a little effort into her. I have no idea why her owner dumped her at the highest kill shelter in the state but her time was up and she had only been there for 30 minutes. This shelter has no room for owner turn in's so they kill them immediately! Roxy was a lucky girl that I was there that day at 8.30 am! Roxy needs a home with a secure fenced yard or someone to leash walk her. She is a great dog park dog or dog walking dog bc/ she is good with all dogs, kids, people, etc. Look at this face, she needs you.

Alexis is a wonderful girl and very smart. She is good with the other dogs, does not jump the short fence, loves to sit and lean against your leg while being petted and sits on command. She loves to play fetch and listens very well. She needs a home who is active and has dog experience as her breed is rather special. Alexis is great with other dogs but will bark and drag you to another dog while out on leash. Alexis also requires a dog door. She has had potty issues in the past but has figured it out since we put in the dog door. She usually only make it a few feet out onto the deck but it is outside!. She just seems to not know she has to go until she has to go immediately. I have worked hard to break Alexis of her potty issues b/c she lived in a shelter for 6 months before we got her and she learned to potty in her run.

He does like to go for walks and of course has his nose to the ground at all times. He is completely housebroken and goes to the door when he wants to go out. He does bark when people go by the yard when he is outside but it is really just b/c he wants their attention and wants to get pets. He is great with other dogs and cats. We prefer older children for him b/c one under about 10 seem to make him nervous.

Amanda is a funny, young hearted girl who loves to explore the backyard, go for walks and chase squirrels. She bounces when she's happy and loves everyone she meets. She sleeps well all night on her dog bed and is ready to go outside to potty first thing in the morning. Amanda loves chew bones like raw hides, durabones, etc. I pulled her from a kill shelter on her last day available. I thought she was a senior dog by her coloring but her teeth are great and the vet said that's just her coloring! She does need training on leash. She pulls hard to go where she wants to go. Don't let this little girls grey coloring on her face and feet fool you, she's a happy, loving angel.

Sabrina is a love bug. S he is great with other dogs, cats and people once she knows you. She has always been shy from the day I pulled her out from under a tree. Her mother, McKenzie, listed below, and her siblings, were living alone in the woods under a fallen tree where the pups were born. I had seen McKenzie and followed her to find her puppies. Sabrina was the last one I got out bc she ran to the back and growled at me. LOL She was only 3 weeks old! As a puppy Sabrina was the first to play with toys and she loved her ball but no one ever adopted her. As she grew up in a house/kennel with 30 other dogs, she started to retreat into a shell and became very shy. This happens to alot of the dogs that don't get adopted quickly. She and her mother were adopted a year ago together and just recently returned b/c the new owner has some major health issues. Sabrina has lived with cats now and she ignores them. She is very smart and LOVES car rides. If you open the car door she is in there in a second and won't get out until she has a ride!

Sabrina is totally housebroken, wants to be on the bed but is perfectly happy in her own bed. She does not need a crate but she does need a fenced yard. We are looking for a home to spoil her. A home with no kids b/c I think they would scare her to death. If you are open to adopting two, please consider her mother as well. There is a special monetary deal for both b/c they love each other so much.

McKenzie is sponsored monthly by David W. Thank you!

McKenzie and her puppies were living alone in the woods under a fallen tree where the pups were born. I had seen McKenzie and followed her to find her puppies. She was not happy and barked at me. I ended up having to rescue the pups, set the dog trap and take the puppies home. When I got back, McKenzie was in the trap, very sad and pitiful. I got her home and the second I put her in the room and she saw her puppies her whole life changed. She licked each one, wiggled everywhere and climbed into my lap for hugs and kisses. I have never seen a reaction like this and I will never forget it. That was 3 1/2 years ago!

McKenzie was here until a year ago when she got adopted along with her daughter Sabrina. Recently they were returned to me b/c the new owner became very ill. She is sad and sleeps lot but doing okay. She has always been housebroken and a total love muffin. She is so sweet and will sit then scoot up to you for love and attention. She listens better then any dog I have ever met and all she wants is a normal home with a nice bug fluffy bed.

McKenzie has a leg issue now. She needs an FHO where the femerol head of his rear leg is removed and a soft socket is formed. We are collection donations to get this surgery completed. A new home would be wonderful for her so she could recover there and not worry about being knocked down by all the dogs around here. If you are considering two dogs, please look at Sabrina above. They love each other so much and a deal can be worked out for the adoption.

Wilbur is an angel. He love to be with people and is great with all dogs, cats, kids, adults. He is just a love bug. He is named Wilbur b/c he has a little deformed pig nose. No worries though, this just makes him unique and does not hinder his breathing or anything. Wilbur loves to play with other dogs and toys. When he is alone he will run around and toss his toys in the air by himself for fun. He enjoys sitting on the deck watching squirrels and also lounging on his big dog bed in the house. He totally ignores the cats. When I can't find Wilbur and he isn't responding to my calls in the house, I know where to look. He is usually in the bathroom in the laundry basket sound asleep LOL

Wilbur was saved from Dekalb Animal Control just hours before he was to put down. They had picked him up as a stray.

TESS is a wonderfully sweet, playful and loving 8 year old lab mix, 43 lbs. She is a perfect angel at her foster home. She lives in an apartment and goes for leash walks. She grew up living in a garage with a fenced yard. She was never allowed inside and one day when she dug out of her yard and killed the neighbors pet bunny rabbit they had outside, her owner dumped her at animal control to be killed! Luckily, within hours, another neighbor who loved Tess, ran to the shelter and saved her. However, she couldn't keep her b/c her dog is dog aggressive. That is how we ended up with Tess.

Tess is great with everyone outside the home. She is great with dogs, kids and all adults. Inside however, she is terrified of men. She barks at them and freaks out when men are in the house as if they are a rodent she needs to sound the alarm about. I think with the right man, she would adjust but she is terrified of tall, large men ONLY WHEN INDOOR. There is obviously a history behind this we do not know. Also b/c of the bunny incident we are ruling out a home with cats!

Please give Tess a chance. We have had her for 5 months and no one even glances at her at adoption events b/c she sits in the back of her pen and won't go to anyone. She is a great dog for a woman!

Foster Home Notes: Dottie is a love bug. She is happy and sweet all the time and loves everyone she meets. We recently moved her to a foster home that has dogs and cats and she was a little taken back by the cats, sniffed, crawled towards them, lost control of her legs trying to get away when she was startled. LOL She is fine with cats and other dogs. Dottie is very playful. She enjoys everything about life and just wants to be loved. She is very smart and will do wonderfully with someone who has the time to put just a small effort into her training. She goes in her crate on command and potties outside but she pulls and zig zags a little on leash and still wants to stand up on people to say hello. Both things we are working to resolve. If you want a dog who is great with everyone and everything, Dottie should be at the top of your list.

Mozzie is a wonderfuly sweet and smart boy. He loves to cuddle and he loves to play. He is still living in the kennel house with his mother and his remaining siblings. He is a creature of routine like most dogs and we have a good schedule. He goes outside to potty and when I call him he comes running with happiness to see mommy. Mozzie is pretty mellow but his personality is developing each day. He love to find a soft place to nap. I often find him curled up in my laundry basket with a leg hanging over the side. LOL He also loves to bask in the sun on the deck.

Mozzie will need a home who will spend time with him and work with him on leash. He still isn't very sure about that and he rarely will go potty on leash. He only walks on leash when we are at events on Sundays so he doesn't get alot of practice. That said, he is doing great! If you have children, he would do best in a home with older kids who aren't running around fast and loud as he does get scared pretty easily b/c he hasn't been around kids much. He runs and hides from them when they get excited. If you have children, you must have a fenced yard to adopt a dog from our organization. I love this boy to pieces and hope someone will see what I see in him. He is not only very handsome but very snuggly.

*Fenced yard and another dog is required

Cheddar has always been the shyest one of the litter. He and Mozzie would hang back when people came to visit, just to watch and wait and see, while the siblings were all about the love from strangers. They still spend alot of time together. Cheddar does love to play and he gets so excited to see me when I get home. He is a very happy dog when he is comfortable in his surroundings. He has been at the kennel house with his siblings and mom all his life.

Cheddar needs a home with no kids unless they are teenagers. He also requires a fenced yard. I took Cheddar on a home visit to a very nice guy and his dog and Cheddar totally shut down b/c he was so scared. He hide in the corner then under a bush in the yard. He only came out when I brought my familiar dog out of the car to the yard. A move to a new home is going to be emotional for him so a new mom or dad will have to understand this about his personality. Once he is comfortable he is wonderful!
