Forgotten Paws does more then your typical rescue group. We do not ONLY house dogs and try to find them homes...we do so much more!
Volunteers are needed to assist because we do spread ourselves rather thin!
| Convenience Euthanasia Rescue & Placement: |
| Forgotten Paws works with owners and veterinary clinics to save pets the owners simply want to kill instead of deal with them. You would be amazed at the reasons owners feel justify killing a perfectly great dog! Allergies, won't stay in the fence, etc. |
| Recent Rescues: |

Skippy is a 4 yr old Jack Russell that after several years of bliss, he got attacked by two dogs while on a walk. Since that time he no longer got along with the dog in the home. I can only assume he thinks that dog was attacking him. His mom was at the vet to euthanize him b/c she could no longer deal with the issue.

 |
Bud is a 3 year old pure breed Wheaton Terrier. His owner wanted to kill b/c he scratch's all the time and he didn't want to deal with the fact that he has sever allergies to food and other materials. Bud is in our group now. We aee trying to determine his allergies so we can find him the perfect forever home

Wallace is a 1 year old, pure breed, Australian Shepherd. His owner had her pen in hand signing away his life for euthanasia when I walked into the vet that morning. She was tired of him b/c he refused to stay in a crate and he jumped the fence. Wallace is now in a great new home in Texas (see transports below) |

Transports: |
|
Forgotten Paws aids in the coordination of and virtual and physical transports of rescue dogs to new homes. There is an amazing network of transporters out there both on the ground and in the air. If interested in becoming a transport driver or pilot, go to Yahoo Groups and put in dog transports. For Pilots, go to PilotNPaws..org.
Coordinating transports is very stressful and time consuming. We map out the route, break it into 1 -2 hour segments then start begging for assistance along that route.
There are paid transporters who go to the NE and the cost is $150 a dog. Even if we use these transporters we have to schedule everything on both ends and complete the proper vet care before they go. |

Nicholas and Paulina are in California! We sent them off on a flight last week to a new rescue. It would take us months to find homes for two solid black puppies but in California they will hopefully be in new homes in matter of days!
Thank you Marjorie with C.A.R.R.E Labs

Large Group Placement Coordination for dogs in danger & in bad situations |
Forgotten Paws spends alot of time and energy focusing on helping people who have gotten in over their heads. This can be a hoarder or just a nice person who can't say no to saving animals when asked. We get contacted by people all the time to help them but most are far away. We have to chose and that is tough.
We do need volunteers to transport, send out emails, coordinate transports, online researchers who help us check out those who want dogs and also go to these places and do a photo inventory of the dogs and cats in need of placement. This is a big job but SO FULFILLING to watch as we put "adopted" next to their photos! |

Rainsville, Alabama - 101 DOGS! We have placed all but the last 7 dogs into new rescues and homes across the country. We screen these rescues and homes very well before sending them a dog.

| Spay & Neuter Transporting |
|
We offer transport help when we can to those we can convince to spay or neuter their dogs. If we don't transport them we can't be sure they will go! We use the Cobb County certificates to give the owners a huge discount on altering their dog or cat (Spay $65, Neuter $45 for dogs) |

|
| Trapping of Stray Dogs |
 |
Many of the dogs we have saved and placed have been dogs we caught running the streets. Dogs no one else wanted to spend the time needed to catch. Most rescues won't help those dogs but we do. We now have a trap of our own but we used to borrow them from Animal Control. For several years we have been trapping stray dogs in one wooded area of Decatur. They are all related because we have never been able to get them all. We do whatever it takes. Tromping through the woods to find them. Sitting and watching to figure out their routine. Setting up feeding pens to gain their trust. To the left is Mama Kelly. It took me one year to the week to catch this smart sweetheart. She had 3 litters in that time that we saved. Mama spends her days on my couch now! She and her babies were well worth it. |

Such programs typically match all or a percentage of employee contributions to charitable organizations, making the employer a partner in employees' personal philanthropy. Simply obtain a matching-gift form from your employer's personnel office, fill it out, and provide it to Forgotten Paws with your contribution First, start with your Human Resources manager. This person will usually have the information you are looking for or can direct you to the right person. Most companies have a simply form you fill out or that is mailed to Forgotten paws. We fill in the form with a copy of your donation receipt or check and they mail us a check to match the percentage they offer. We know many companies offer this program. If your company does, please let us know so we can compile a list of companies who support their smaller local charities.
